Stitt Energy Systems, Inc. exists "to provide energy efficient homes that are environmentally responsible for the health, welfare, and happiness of our customers, employees, investors and future generations."

Orlo Stitt and his brother, John, founded Stitt Energy Systems in 1978 with the simple goal of building energy-efficient homes that were more stylish than others being built in the ‘70s. Trusting the public was ready to embrace energy efficiency, they opened for business in a circa 1946 home on a tree-covered lot in Rogers, Arkansas.

Orlo, who built his first passive solar home in Canada during the early 70’s, had learned that the materials in a home’s energy ‘shell’ – the foundation, walls, windows, doors, roof, and insulation – all work together to make a home efficient. Any deficiency in either materials or assembly ultimately compromise the home’s energy performance. In essence, the materials and workmanship that go into building a home create a complete, integrated Energy System. To emphasize that concept, the brothers included it in the company name; Stitt Energy Systems.

Seeing is believing! Stitt Energy built a display house to show how passive solar design could contribute to a home’s beauty and energy efficiency. They also installed a solar water heating system that continues to operate today. Over the years, “the display house,” using no source of heat other than the sun and two small wood stoves, has inspired hundreds of visitors to embrace the use of solar energy in their own homes.

In 2008 the company began an extensive renovation of the original office following Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines established by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The renovation was certified LEED Platinum in 2009 by the USGBC. The office is now home to our Design, Estimating, Field Services, and Accounting personnel. Complete with its own solar electric (PV) system, the LEED office is available for educational tours by appointment.
